Welcome to my blog! Hi, I'm Sherri, a happily married, 40-something, stay-at-home, work-at-home, work-outside-the-home mom. I have three boys (one's grown, married and a father himself; one is in high school; and the youngest is in middle school), two dogs, a cat and a bunch of other little critters...
I love to crochet and knit and sew. I'm always interested in learning new crafts, like bead stringing, felt doll making, book making, painting ...

You may or may not know that Etsy sponsors teams to help promote specific areas of Etsy. And you may or may not know that I am a comoderator of the EtsyKnitters team (see “How I Ended Up as Comoderator of the EK Team” to see how that happened.)
The EtsyKnitters are a wonderful bunch of (mostly) women. We share a common love of knitting, but we also share the desire to be successful in our Etsy.com shops. We share selling tips, help promote each other’s shops with weekly promotion threads in Etsy’s forums and with the occasional holiday challenge.
I mentioned that I am a comoderator of this team, and you may be wondering who the other moderators are.
The first person, and probably the real backbone of this team, is Marie Haigh of Knitted Gems. Mette, Robbi and I have jobs and do stuff, but Marie makes sure we’ve done it all right and keeps us on track. Marie is a new mother and sells beautiful knitting patterns and finished items in various places around the web.
Second, and the brain child behind the team concept, is Mette Buchreitz of Knitting Mette. Mette is the heart of our team. She really loves what goes on in the team, the team itself and takes the successes of the team ( or the failures) personally. She is a great, wonderful, loving person! Mette lives in the shadow of the Tower of Pisa in Italy, teaches English to students at school and is very active in her knitting community at home.
We recently added a fourth moderator when we found out Marie was going to be out for a while with her new baby. Mette and I were afraid to go it alone. LOL. So we asked Robbi Forsythe of Kindred Knits to join us. She has graciously stepped in and is trying to fill Marie’s shoes (for now) and we are so glad to have her on board.
Over the next few months, I’m hoping to feature some of our team members with short bio’s and links to shops. I hope you’ll check them out!

What’s New?
I was finally able to get myself motivated in February and got two new patterns finished and listed.
The first is my Big Crocheted Sock Monkey Amigurumi Crochet Pattern. The same size as my knitted sock monkey pattern and a sock monkey sewn from a Rockford Red Heel Sock, this monkey is easy and quick to make up. He even comes with a Fez hat.
The second new pattern is a knitted one. I needed a pair of fingerless mittens and ended up having to make my own after I couldn’t find any here in town. I call them Super-Easy-Roll-Cuff Fingerless Mitts.
What’s Upcoming?
I’m very close to finishing up the next Life Like Pet pattern, a dachsund. I just need to sew it together and put pictures in the pattern. After that I have plans for sweaters for the sock monkeys, and other accessories for them, as well as a knit in the round sock monkey (to avoid all that seaming…) and a panda bear pattern.

Want to get to know EtsyKnitters team members? Well here’s your chance. I’m going to be featuring team members over the next few months. If you want to be featured, email me your shop name, your real name, a link to your shop and a short bio or interesting facts about you and your shop.
First up is Ana Semerdjieva of Ana’s Knits.

Here is some information about Ana in her own words.
My name is Ana – a married woman with two kids – a 7 year-old daughter and a 5 year-old son, living in Belgium. In my shop I sell hand-knitted and crocheted clothes. People’s appreciation and satisfaction from my products make me proud, especially when they come back. The first incentive for me to create is the love of knitting/crocheting. This has been my biggest hobby since childhood. Now, the new techniques, new pattern, new types of clothing, other peoples’ creations really motivate me to experience and create. And the most satisfying thing is to see that people like my creations and are willing to spend their money for hand-knitted/crocheted clothes. With every sale I feel the need to start a new and more interesting project.
My mom showed me the knitting and crocheting techniques when I was about 9 years old. Since then I have been perfecting my knitting abilities. Besides knitting I love gobelin tapestry. I have a few gobelins that I am proud of. The other hobby I hope I will have more time to practice is photography.
My day job – I am a secretary at an attorney’s office. I love it and it satisfies me a lot.
Thank you Ana!

Do you know about Etsy.com? If not, you’re really missing out of some of the coolest handmade stuff around. It’s like the world’s biggest handmade online mall. You will find jewelry, clothing, knitted items, crocheted items, vintage items and even digital items, like photographs and patterns.
As you probably guessed, I also have a shop on Etsy and you can find it here: http://sherricrochets.etsy.com
Later,
Sherri

I’ve been working days as a cashier at a big box pet store, and have enjoying it. Until winter came… Having to stand near the front door all day when it’s really cold outside is not fun. We’ve had a real winter here in Houston and my California girl roots are not enjoying it.
During our deep freeze, I decided I needed something to keep my hands warm while at work. Obviously, I need to be able to handle money and customers purchases. So I needed fingerless mittens. I knew I could figure out how to make myself some mitts, but I really didn’t feel like it, so I drove all over town looking for plain, dark blue, fingerless mitts — and didn’t find one single pair.
Sad and dejected, I went home and grabbed the yarn I had close by (Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn!”) and the first set of DPN’s I could find (they turned out to be size 8’s) and cast on enough stitches to fit around my hand. Within a couple hours I had my first mitt. It was a bit of a mess, but I adjusted a few things and made another, which was really cute!
So here I am a few weeks later with a new pattern for you. You can find it here.
