Welcome to my blog!

Hi, I'm Sherri, a happily married, 40-something, stay-at-home, work-at-home, work-outside-the-home mom. I have three boys (one's grown, married and a father himself; one is in high school; and the youngest is in middle school), two dogs, a cat and a bunch of other little critters... I love to crochet and knit and sew. I'm always interested in learning new crafts, like bead stringing, felt doll making, book making, painting ...

How I Ended Up as a Comoderator of the EtsyKnitters Team

I know it’s on everyone’s mind (ok, so maybe you’ve wondered, maybe you haven’t…), “How did SherriCrochets end up as a comoderator of the EtsyKnitters Team?”

I often wonder that myself.  I mean, while I know how to knit, I’m not that good at it, nor do I do it all that often.  I’m way better, faster and more creative at crochet.  Not to mention the fact that I hate being the leader or teacher or person in charge and will avoid confrontation at any cost.  And yet, some how, I’ve ended up being a leader on a knitting team.

It all happened kind of quick …

At the time, I think it’s been almost a year now, I was changing my website’s hosting company and the whole look of the place.  I then discovered that I had no idea how to write enough html to make a whole website on my own, so I hired Thanita of One Happy Tree and Simple Dimple Designs to make a site that directed back to Etsy.  She did a great job for me, and it was just what I needed at the time.

One day, while perusing her site, I found a link to a new knitting team on Etsy.  I checked it out on the Etsy forums and checked out the Yahoo group and thought, “Hey, my knitted sock monkey pattern is one of my best selling items.  If I joined this knitting group, I bet I could get lots of exposure with other knitters.”  So I applied for membership.

Turned out that the original owner of the group had decided that running a team was more than she had bargained for, and she had passed it on to Thanita, who had decided the same thing and she was trying to find someone else who could take over.  After she approved me for membership, she asked if I was interested in taking over the team.  I said, “No, not unless someone else is going to help.”

Thanita mentioned that she thought she had one person who was a definite to take over, and  another who was a maybe.  Enter Mette and Marie.

Next thing we three knew, we were running the team.  It was at that time that we discussed making rules (like the 25% rule) and we had a vote.  The majority of the team voted in favor of the 25%-minimum-active-Etsy-shop-owner rule, but the exception was that anyone who was already a member of the team was automatically allowed to stay in the group.  Thus, I wasn’t kicked out.  :)

I feel a bit out of place in the knitting group every once in a while, but this is the bestest group I have ever belonged to, and I have two great new friends in Marie and Mette, so I’m not going anywhere!
