When my craft obsession first got so big and I realized that I was going to need to start selling the stuff I made, I never realized how hard selling was going to be.
Take today for example. I have 4 or 5 scarves I made while on vacation two years ago. Yes, two years ago. I had intended to post them to my shop within a month of making them, but I’ve been putting it off for two years now. Why?
Partly because I’ve been taking pictures of said scarves since 10:30 AM. It’s now 1:36 PM and I’m still editing them. I realize that I took maybe 30 minutes to go drive through at McDonald’s and get a double fish filet, fries and an iced tea, but still. Why does it take so long to set up a shot, take several versions and then edit them??? I don’t get it. Is it just me?
I guess it’s not the creative process that gets me down. My MIL (mother-in-law) asked me to make her a crocheted Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz for a friend of hers two weeks ago. I had him done in two days. Yet he’s still sitting in my living room waiting to be mailed to her.
Back to the scarves. After I finish the pictures, which all need to have specific names so I can upload them to my Zen Cart FTP files so they all show up with the right product, I have to figure out how I’m going to describe each product, or scarf in this case. That means I have to open up my word processing file, which I fondly call “Catalog” and enter each one in to it, come up with a catchy description and measure each one so the descriptions can be accurate.
Then I can list them on my Sherri Crochets & Crafts site, Etsy, and ArtFire. If they were patterns, I’d also list them on Lulu.com and Ravelry.
So I just took a break from photo editing to vacuum the dog fur off the living room carpet and to start this week’s laundry. Then I had the brilliant idea to do a blog post.
Which means I’m procrastinating again, doesn’t it?
Off to work on it some more,
Sherri

Taking pictures takes time and it’s a pain, but I usually just leave them in the pictures file and then do the descriptions when I’m listing them on etsy. Then when I list on Artfire (which I don’t give nearly as much time as I should), I just copy and paste descriptions from etsy.
